This year, 400 new jobs were created in the country's greenhouse farms due to an increase in the area of greenhouses by 35 hectares. Innovative technologies make it possible to grow more than 11 thousand tons of vegetable products per year on these sites.
Tomatoes are grown in greenhouses in the Kaakhka etrap and the Ak bugday etrap of the Akhal velayat. In the Balkan velayat, entrepreneur S. Narliev has mastered innovative methods of caring for plants and using modern high-tech equipment. The individual enterprise "Mähriban oba" from the Sakarchag etrap (Mary velayat) plans to grow high-yielding varieties of tomatoes all year round, and the individual enterprises of the Lebap velayat receive excellent harvests of various vegetables in greenhouses.
According to the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, there are about 80 greenhouses operating in the country with a total area of more than 410 hectares. Also, more than 170 greenhouses are being built with a total area of over 1,683 hectares. Another 16 farms are planning to start building greenhouses this year.
Greenhouse farms of Turkmenistan provide the domestic market with fresh vegetable products all year round: tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers, strawberries. The export potential of the country's agriculture is growing: large consignments of tomatoes are regularly sent to the CIS countries. For seven months of this year, private growers exported more than 51 thousand tons of tomatoes worth 56.5 million US dollars, which is twice as much as in the same period in 2020. The quality of Turkmen agricultural products was appreciated by consumers from Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, the United Arab Emirates and other countries.
