Turkmenistan welcomes President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, arriving to our country with a state visit.
The fact that the first foreign visit of the new President of Uzbekistan is to Turkmenistan, and he is the first high-ranking guest from the moment of the re-election of Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov for the presidency is the best evidence of mutual desire and interest of both countries to intensify and comprehensively expand constructive dialogue, the hallmarks of which have always been good-neighborliness, equality, openness, mutual respect and mutual understanding of the vital importance of strengthening the centuries-old ties of friendship and trust between the two brotherly peoples.
In the course of recent phone calls, leaders of the two neighboring countries have repeatedly pointed out the existence of favorable conditions for further intensification of political and diplomatic relations, mutually beneficial partnership in trade and economic cooperation, deepening of cultural and humanitarian contacts.
Successful promotion of joint plans is possible through intergovernmental Turkmen-Uzbek commission for trade-economic, scientific-technical and cultural cooperation, the thirteenth meeting of which has successfully been held in Ashgabat in January this year. Within the framework of consistent implementation of the Agreement between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan on economic cooperation for 2013-2017, the parties give full support to the contacts between economic entities of the two states, their participation in exhibitions and fairs held regularly in both countries.
The strategic character of long-term strategic partnership is successfully demonstrated by implemented projects, in particular, the laying of transnational gas pipeline Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan-Kazakhstan-China, which opened new horizons for the expansion of regional cooperation, as well as projects planned for implementation.
Uzbekistan actively supports important global initiatives of Turkmenistan, including the development of modern transport infrastructure and the creation of new transport and transit corridors. As you know, the neighboring country expressed readiness to take an active part in the creation of an international corridor “Central Asia - Middle East” (Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Oman), the implementation of which will not only help build trade and economic cooperation between the states of Central Asia, Near and Middle East, but also will become one of the most important factors for sustainable development in the region and in the entire world. In the light of contemporary realities, there are also favorable conditions for bilateral cooperation in the framework of other promising projects in the transport sector, including the creation of a corridor Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Caspian Sea-South Caucasus with access to the Black Sea ports of Georgia, Turkey, Romania and other countries.
In early February, our country has been visited by delegations from the two largest regions of the Republic of Uzbekistan - Bukhara and Khorezm, who have been at the leading industrial enterprises, as well as in the facilities of cultural establishments of Lebap and Dashoguz velayats. Guests were given the opportunity to see the large-scale transformations taking place in Turkmenistan, as witnessed by magnificent buildings, comfortable housing, and modern social facilities.
Last month Ashgabat has also hosted a presentation of the new car brand Ravon - successor to the Uz-Daewoo brand, organized by the Economic Society “Turkmen-UzAVTO” - a joint venture joint-stock company of “Uzavtosanoat” and State shopping center “Turkmenistan” under the Ministry of Trade and Foreign Economic Relations. It is noteworthy to say that the Turkmen market is attractive for Uzbek producers - for 10 years of its work, “Turkmen-UzAVTO” ES, being the distributor of “General Motors Uzbekistan” (“GM Uzbekistan”) sold about two thousand cars of Chevrolet and Uz-Daewoo brands. And on the eve of the visit of the distinguished guest to Turkmenistan a Technical Center of Uzbek agricultural products – “Uzagrotehsanoatholding” has been opened on the basis of “Turkmen-UzAVTO”. In the future, our partners are planning to build the largest shopping and service center in Ashgabat, as well as to open branches in the regions of the country.
The two brotherly states are bound by historical ties, common cultural and spiritual values of the Turkmen and Uzbek people, which contribute to further rapprochement and regularly carried out large-scale creative actions. For example - the Days of Culture of Turkmenistan, which successfully took place in Uzbekistan in November last year.
The desire of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan to bring the intergovernmental dialogue to a higher level gives us confidence that the Ashgabat meeting, on the basis of which it is planned to sign a package of documents, will be a prelude to a new phase of multi-aspect cooperation with huge potential.
