A meeting of the Interagency Commission, which is established to implement the National Strategy for 2014-2020 in order to achieve the objectives of the Ashgabat Declaration on the Prevention and Control of Non-communicable Diseases, was held at the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry.

This document was adopted at the WHO European Ministerial Conference on the Prevention and Control of Non-communicable Diseases in the Context of Health 2020 which was held in Ashgabat in December 2013.
The heads of the ministries and departments, who are the members of the National Coordinating Council established to implement this Strategy, participated in the meeting. They considered the main areas for cooperation and the ways to develop a uniform approach to the prevention, detection and elimination of causes and conditions conducive to the spread of non-communicable diseases (NCDs).
The presentation of the action plan developed jointly with the World Health Organization to reduce the burden of non-communicable diseases took place during the meeting. The meeting participants also discussed the ways to coordinate actions in the implementation of this action plan, including the measures to improve the prevention and early diagnosis of non-communicable diseases which significantly reduce the need for long-term and complex treatment.

A wide network of specialized clinics that use innovative technologies, modern diagnostic technology, professional training, postgraduate education development, health insurance, access to quality medicines make it possible today to conduct effective activities in the areas of non-communicable diseases, such as oncology, cardiology , endocrinology, pulmonology, etc. The modern concept of the health system goes far beyond the diagnosis and treatment and covers many areas of social development. The large-scale programme activities launched in Turkmenistan to involve citizens, particularly youth, in the mass sports and physical activity movement, promote healthy lifestyles and eradicate bad habits, profoundly contribute to eradicating NCDs. Also, healthy eating standards, sanitary and hygienic rules and expansion of the network sanatoria and health resort facilities built throughout the country.
